Our after school and enrichment programs expose children to great works of art from around the world and provide students with the opportunity to problem solve, role play, question, discover, and create.
GOALS:
* Students’ curiosity for and understanding of the specific artwork will be enhanced through differentiated instruction, thereby building self esteem and confidence for diverse learners. * Students will be familiar and feel comfortable with various works of art from worldwide museum collections. * Students will have the opportunity to sharpen their perceptual and higher level thinking skills through inquiry-based discussions. * Students will feel success through problem-solving and hands-on art experiences.
KINDERGARTEN-2ND GRADE OR 3RD-5TH GRADE
CHILDREN IN ART: Leave your passports at home – we are bringing the museums to you! Join us as we take a virtual trip around the world to visit famous works of art about CHILDREN. Each week we will learn about a different masterpiece and the artist that created it through fun discussions, games and hands-on art projects. All discussions are inquiry-based and all projects are process-based. Artists studied will include Francisco de Goya, Mary Cassatt, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Vincent van Gogh. Minimum 6 Maximum 12. $14 per child, per class. Available for 4-10 week sessions.
Once Upon a Picture: In this one-hour class children hear stories, study illustrators’ styles, and create their own artwork in the style of the illustrators. The goals of this program are to provide another way for children to connect with books, increase children’s awareness of how art fits together with the words of a story, and familiarize children with illustrators’ styles. Minimum 6 Maximum 12 . $14 per child, per class. Available for 4-10 week sessions.
KINDERGARTEN-2ND GRADE, 3RD-5TH GRADE OR 6TH-8TH GRADE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SALVADOR DALI!: It’s Salvador Dali’s 106th birthday and we’d love for you to celebrate with us!!!!! We will take a virtual trip around the world to visit famous works of art by this Spanish Surrealist artist. Each week we will learn about a different Dali masterpiece through fun discussions, games and hands-on art projects. All discussions are inquiry-based and all projects are process-based. Don’t miss this exciting series about an extraordinary individual and his fascinating works of art! Minimum 6 Maximum 12. $14 per child, per class. Available for 4-10 week sessions.

Judaic Art Adventures: Learn about upcoming Jewish holiday themes through worldwide museum masterpieces! The ideas behind Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Chanukah will be enhanced by works of art from various cultures and time periods. Our weeks will be spent alternating between masterpiece games and related art projects. Some of the works that will inspire us are the furniture of King Louis XIV, a Chinese garden, Frank Lloyd Wright's stained glass windows and paintings by David Hockney, Francisco de Goya and Claude Monet. Projects include furniture design, stained glass windows, watercolor painting and more!!!! Minimum 6 Maximum 12. $14 per child, per class. Available for 4-10 week sessions.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WINSLOW HOMER! It is 175 years since the birth of this fascinating American artist. Join us as we learn about the life of Winslow Homer, his medium and his breathtaking masterpieces. CARTOONING: The popularity of the graphic novel has inspired countless parents and children to request this class. So, at this time, we are thrilled to bring you our CARTOONING WORKSHOP! What a perfect time, too. This Winter marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Joseph Barbera, who, along with William Hanna, created the well-loved cartoons Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear, the Flinstones and the Jetsons. What kind of characters will YOU create? The possibilities are endless! Let's get started!!!!! SPORTS IN ART: Happy 100th Birthday, "Hammerin' Hank" Greenberg, legendary Jewish American baseball player! In Greenberg's honor, we will discover ancient and modern-day sports depicted in famous museum masterpieces. Celebrate your favorite sport and learn a few new ones in this unusual and informative class.

FLAGS IN ART: 150 years ago, The Confederate States of America adopted the ‘Stars and Bars’ flag. What is considered when creating a flag design? Why? Let's visit flags from around the world in various museum masterpieces and learn about who created them ,when and where they were created, how the designs emerged and why. MUSIC IN ART: Do your children know who Al Jolson was? In honor of his 125th birthday, we will discuss his musical talents, and explore unique musical instruments. In addition, we will discover masterpieces depicting individuals and groups in the act of creating, singing and dancing to music throughout time and around the world. THE MOON IN ART: It is 50 years since President John F. Kennedy gave his famous ‘man on the moon’ speech. Let's observe how various artists have depicted the moon and even the stars and planets in various works of art. SKYSCRAPERS IN ART: This year marks the 80th anniversary of the opening of The Empire State Building in New York. Join us as we learn about this and other fascinating architectural buildings in masterpieces from around the world.
